No one wanted him! I did feel that Koscielny and Djourou would be good back ups, but that was before the 8-2 defeat against Man Utd. I am pleased we have made one addition to our centre back forces, ideally I would have liked two but would that have been feasible? I ask that as Vermaelen is clearly our first choice centre back so if we bought two centre backs one would have been a bench warmer … and we have that with Koscielny, Djourou and even Miquel

Verdict – Happy. We are now stronger in this position then we were last year. Let’s hope Mertesacker proves to be a quality defender and we do not end up cursing Wenger not paying the extra couple of million for Cahill.

Verdict – I feel we have got stronger at left back but if Sagna gets injured we could be in trouble at right back. It depends on how Jenkinson develops – Very happy regarding left back – Praying Sagna does not get injured at right back

Midfielders
Fabregas
Randall
Denilson (loan)
Lansbury (loan)
Diaby
Rosicky
Ramsey
Song
Wilshere
Frimpong
Eastmond (injured)
Henderson (injured)
*Arteta
*Benayoun

Comments – We have lost an exceptional talent in Cesc Fabregas, but due to the Barca DNA we always knew it was eventually going to happen. At least it has now happened and we can move on. Maybe Diaby will stop getting injured and he can show the fans what he clearly shows Wenger in training. Rosicky finally looks over his injury woes and hasn’t looked too bad. We then have some exceptional young talents of our own in Wilshere and Ramsey, let’s hope they can both continue to flourish. The emergence of Frimpong excites me, let’s hope he opts to play for England instead of Ghana as he will cover nicely for Song … who knows he may even keep Song out of the first XI! We then have two long term injuries in Eastmond and Henderson. Add our two new players, Arteta and Benayoun into the mix of our midfield generals and you have to admit we look strong

Verdict – Happy – I am gutted that Cesc has gone, but it was only a mater of time before it happened. These are the players that will play in the 3 of a 4-3-3 or in a centre midfield of 2 in a 4-4-2 – Therefore you have to admit that we have the resources in numbers, let’s hope they can all step up to the quality required and provide the goals, but more importantly the assists that we will be missing from Mr Barca DNA!

Wingers/Attackers/Forwards
J E Thomas
Sunu
Nasri
Vela (loan)
Bendtner (loan)
Van Persie
Walcott
Arshavin
Chamakh
*Campbell (loan due to work permit)
*Oxlade-Chamberlain
*Young-Park
*Gervinho
*Miyaichi (work permit acquired)

Comments – We will no doubt miss the Nasri who was on fire in December …. But that was him in his prime during his Arsenal career. He was a very inconsistent player. On one hand we remember, Fulham (2-0), Man Utd (2-1) but then on the other hand we remember him away to Bolton and home to Villa … I feel the aditions of Gervinho, Miyaichi and even Young-Park could replace and even overtake the quality that Nasri provided in his prime. We then have another young promising talent in Oxlade-Chamberlain, let’s hope he can show us why Wenger spent up to 15m for him. Let’s hope and pray that Chamakh and Arshavin remember how to play football and find their form … we must also pray that RVP does not get injured. Walcott can do a job in a 4-4-2, he does not convince me out wide … lets hope Wenger learns to agree with me (and around 60,000 other Arsenal supporters). If RVO does get injured we do look a bit short, but I guess Wenger could change to a 4-4-2 with Young-Park and Walcott up top or maybe Chamakh could come good again! Gervinho excites me. I have heard great things about Miyacichi and Oxlade-Chamberlain and Young-Park intrigues me! As for the loan deals, I would have preferred to have kept Bendtner, but I guess if he has a great season for Sunderland then we get a better improved player back for next season? Same must go for Vela. If they have a below-par season then Wenger was right to ship them out and then he will try to sell them in the summer of 2012.

Verdict – Happy and Excited - I will be concerned if RVP gets injured, but that is because he is an exceptional talent, I am excited about our forward line … Excited and Intrigued!

Overall Verdict – Happy, Excited and Intrigued - I feel our team has had the make over it has needed. We have shipped out the players who are not good enough and who do not want to be here. We have a good mix of youth and experience, I no longer feel we are relaying on our younger players. I feel that the younger players have the experienced players around them to help and support them. We have some new players to get excited about …. However would these new players flourish more in 4-4-2?? I think so. But does Wenger?

My only concern is why did all this happen so late? Did the 8-2 defeat make Wenger realise that his “project youth” was not ready yet?? Or was this always the plan? Did he always have these players lined up as targets and he waited until the last minute to get the better deals? If the latter is correct then I would strongly advise Wenger to change his plan for next season as I would much prefer all of our players in before the season starts as I feel our new starting line up would not have lost 8-2 against the champions.

Anyway our motto this season is forward so let’s be positive and look forward to our first win of the season with a new look team at home vs Swansea.

Our season starts Sept 10th and I think we should all have a good drink and enjoy some naughty geezer banter to recognise our new start to the season!

Re: Arsene has to stay!!!!!!

Don't worry, our troubles r over - we have enquired Cheslea's Yossi Benayoun!!

Re: The Myth of Scottish football and the lanky, donkey, greedy dirtbag is back.

See that just proves my point. Song wasn't creative enough, so drop him back to CDM, putting Tommy further forward; who I will add really impressed me with the number of tackles/interceptions he made.
- 13SCZ13 is worth his wait in gold; possible further 15/20 seasons in goal for the Arse - beautiful!!
- With Theo's performance last night, he is screaming out to Wenger to play him down the bloody middle!!
- Take what Wenger said with a pinch of salt, he also said he is like a pilot in the last 24hours.

Regards
Paulie!

P.S - I have a tattoo, does that make me passionate?? As fans we are in a Catch22, we have to show our discontent yet if we do it has a negative effect ($$) on the club. I am not one for a "peaceful protest" not just for the reasons you have given but for the fact that really isn't the 'Arsenal way'. LOL I have to laugh at that statement as its statements like that that has leaded us to the predicament we are in now. It seems all this is because we have been trying to do things the Arsenal Way; well that way has leaded us to a dead-end. Is it time for change of management? I am reluctant to jump on that bandwagon, he has until 31st Aug!!! If there is no positive additions them I will most definitely change my tune, only because our squad as it was proved on Saturday is not good enough in the current state.

But what I would actively sign-up for would be a move to replace the Board if not all members then definitely Mr Hillwood, and I would also invite Usmanov. Imagine if the board had listened to him about the rights issue which would have generated 100mil circa for player transfers??

So living in desperate hope seems to now be the ‘Arsenal Way’!

Re: How Stubborn are you Arsene?

Simple fact is money is now killing the game at the top level! How can clubs compete with the spending power of teams such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Man Utd and more recently Man City. These clubs can offer vast salaries to players, who of course will have their heads turned (who wouldn’t?) and want away from their current club.

Long term contracts are now obsolete and only help clubs get a fair fee rather than lose their best players for a pittance or worse yet, be forced to allow the player to leave for free!

The sad fact is loyalty lies purely with the fans, everything else goes to the highest bidder!

Re: How Stubborn are you Arsene?

I totally agree that when boo's ring out at the end of a game, it seems it is directed at the players on the field. While I agree this shouldn't happen, as it is not the players 'fault', how else should fans express their disgust at the current state of the football club they love?

We have transformed from a club that challenged for the title season after season in its recent history; to a club that the fans are hoping for 4th spot. Not one club should have the divine right to challenge for the title, I understand that, but from the view outside, it doesn't even look like the club/manager/board is doing enough in its power to rectify sorry state.

While I agree that the time was right to sell Fabregas and Nasri for different reasons, (homecoming, greed, trophies you can choose), why are these funds not being reinvested? Let’s break this down:

Total incoming funds - Fabregas £33mil +, Nasri £24mil, Clichy £7mil, Eboue £3.5mil, Emmanuel-Thomas £1mil, plus the £30 million we had at start of the transfer window gives us close to £100million.

Total outgoing funds - Oxlade-Chamberlain £12mil, Gervinho £10.7mil, Jenkinson £1mil, Campbell £1mil, equally a total of £24.7million

Meaning we still have the best part of £75million to spend on transfers?? Also with the added player weekly wage reduction from 3 out of the top 7 paid players leaving the club, in addition to the 6.5% price hike, its no wonder that us fans are disillusioned by the current standings of our football club.

So some fans (even though like yourself, I didn't) boo at the end of a game they paid good hard earned money to watch. But do the club/manager/board listen - I doubt it, and the only people it probably effects are the Arsenal players on the pitch, who are the main people we should be 100% behind.

So if we don't boo, how can we let the club know, us fans are not happy? Not attend games? Then the club are losing match day revenue, and financially things get worse. With of course the addition of our players again, not getting the support they deserve and need. Protest outside the stadium? With recent events in the surrounding areas, this may not be the best idea; even if it did begin with a 'peaceful' protest.

So what can us, as Arsenal fans actually do - nothing; well nothing that will not hurt the club further. I generally fear for the club, with this trophy drought continuing for many seasons to come. Yes our youth may develop into world beaters, but until then we have to suffer the immature excuses issued by Wenger (see Frimpong on Saturday against Liverpool) which will cost us points. Of course, that's if we can keep hold of them from the 'big' European football teams; as we all know now, Wenger has declared us as no longer a 'big club with the sales of Samir and Cesc this summer.

Its ironic that the year we have the word 'Forward' embroiled on the club crest for our 125th year anniversary, that the club is in fact most definitely moving backwards.
